(1993, dir. Klaus Maeck, Johanna Schenkel, w/ Blixa Bargeld, Mark Chung, FM Einheit, Alexander Hacke)

Liebeslieder: Einstürzende Neubauten – German Film Festival 2023 will finish at approximately 8:46pm.

Art, music and noise converge to transcend form in this documentary originally commissioned by the German WDR television architecture division. Formed in Berlin as a performance-art duo including Blixa Bargeld (later of Nick Cave's Bad Seeds) and American expatriate N.U. Unruh, Einsturzende Neubauten was among the first innovators in what would later become industrial music.

Exploring their deconstruction of sound from their humble beginnings in an autobahn fly-over hole in Berlin to their later status as some of the most daring musicians to emerge from the early-'80s avant-garde music scene. Showcasing rare footage, interviews, concert performances, and footage of the band's theatrical collaborations with artists Peter Zadek and Heiner Müller, it presents a detailed history of the band and their determination to break down sonic barriers and challenge audience perceptions.

Paving the way for the next generation of post-unification bands and artists, this comprehensive career retrospective explores every aspect of Einstürzende Neubauten's daring and enduring work.

*Note: This documentary was captured on low-fi analogue equipment of the period, it is presented as a time capsule to document the moment in history in which it was created.
