Check out the following films:
The Mission

The Mission [M]

Sweeping, cinematically beautiful historical drama about an 18th Century Jesuit mission in the Brazilian jungle. The missionaries struggle against the legalized slave trade of Portugal and political factions within the church. Written by Robert Bolt, presented here in 70mm film print format.

Gremlins 2

Gremlins 2 [PG]

Clever, amusing sequel good naturedly sends up itself with plenty of movie in- jokes and gags.

The Master

The Master [MA15+]

Like Anderson's previous films The Master is a hypnotic experience, populated with characters that are un-redeemable and complicated human beings. Joaquin Phoenix is a naval veteran and the portrait of the American post World War II drifter, his journey unfolding in a non linear way after he arrives home from war unsettled and uncertain of his future, happening upon the cult like ‘The Cause’ and its charismatic leader.

Aliens

Aliens [M]

Sigourney stars again as the sole human survivor of "Alien", who takes a Marine squadron with her to wipe the creature out. This sequel won an Academy Award for Special Effects.

The Right Stuff

The Right Stuff [M]

Epic drama of training of space astronauts and the behind-the-scenes happenings at the birth of America's space programme. Adapted from Tom Wolfe's book, the story centres around test pilot Chuck Yeager. Astonishing performances. Fantastic footage of actual rocket and space vehicle testing.

The Last Starfighter

The Last Starfighter [PG]

A video-gaming boy, seemingly doomed to stay at his trailer park home all his life, finds himself recruited as a gunner for an alien defense force. Last Starfighter is, oddly, something of a forgotten sci if classic, despite being received well commercially. In retrospect it's now a wonderful relic of an era of cinema sci fi imagination, a well rounded story with some great (obviously dated now) visual effects and a certain charm.

Baraka

Baraka [PG]

Spectacular cinematography, awe inspiring time lapse sequences and sublime music, Baraka succeeds in speaking directly to the soul: in offering a new perspective on our environment and co-inhabitants of Earth. Breathtaking in 70mm on the Astor SuperScreen. Director Fricke was the cinematographer of Koyaanisqatsi.

Titanic

Titanic [M15+]

100 year old Rose tells her story of the Titanic and its ill-fated voyage. Spectacular in original format 70mm.

Poltergeist

Poltergeist [M15+]

Produced and co-written by Steven Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), the film lives up to their reputations for special effects and realistic violence. A young family finds its home invaded by unfriendly spirits, who "kidnap" their 5-year-old girl. Sensationally scary ghost story with a refreshing sense of humor.
