Tim Burton Double
(2012, dir. Tim Burton, w/ Charlie Tahan, Winona Ryder, Martin Landau)
Tim Burton, who some argue is getting to be a bit stale in style and substance, returns to one of his earliest creations to give it renewed feature length treatment. Frankenweenie was a 1984 short film made for Disney that actually got him fired - deemed a waste of money (interesting given the millions he's made for the magic kingdom since!). This version revisits the stop motion animation style so beloved by the gothic flavoured director to tell the tale of Young Victor who conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences. Shot in black and white, it is a wonderful return to the more child-like (well, for a rather dark child) whimsical nature of Burton's earlier work. AB

(1994, dir. Tim Burton, w/ Johnny Depp, Martin Landau, Sarah Jessica Parker, Patricia Arquette)
Ed Wood will start at approximately 9:23pm, and finish at approximately 11:36pm.
If you love movies, you've got to see ED WOOD, Tim Burton's brilliant portrait of the 1950s "B Movie" director - an odd, unique figure in the harsh world of Hollywood, who was responsible for such gems as "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and "Glen or Glenda". Working with nothing but blind faith and conviction to his cause Ed, against all odds, forged ahead with his dreams. With Martin Landau in a well-deserved Academy Award performance as Bela Lugosi. Landau, in his Award acceptance speech said that he "was grateful that everyone who saw this film is here tonight!" Pull the strings, Bela, Pull the strings. (GF)
