Christopher Nolan took Gotham's Caped Crusader and did the thing that had worked perfectly in recent graphic novels - imagined how Batman could exist in the real world. After two features following the conception of the vigilante in Batman Begins, we arrive at the final chapter. With Batman gone for eight years, a new enigmatic and brutal terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham's finest. Bringing the city violently to its knees he forces the Dark Knight to resurface in an effort to protect the city that has branded him an enemy. Nolan shot his finale entirely on film choosing to create as much as he could in camera rather than overload on computer generated effects. It is his commitment to the scope of classic film making, and his obvious deep respect to Bob Kane's creation that makes it quite possibly the finest incarnation of the dark knight detective ever made in his almost 80 year history.
