High school has always been a dangerous place. A breeding ground for competition and sycophants, it’s a terrifying terrain for power relations to play out between teenagers who can no more control their hormones than they can comprehend the true consequence of their actions. When the not-so-popular boy becomes forced family with the swim team’s top dog things take a physical and psychological turn for the worse. An impressively stylish film in the first instance, Wasted on the Young actually employs visual and aural craft to move beyond the film’s tonal affect and to truly permeate the thematics of the film world.
