Davies’ standards are such that he won’t complete a project without sufficient funding to realise his true vision. If only all filmmakers had Davies’ artistic integrity. The Deep Blue Sea is without question the most beautifully crafted film release of 2012. Intelligent, deeply affecting and with an incredibly sophisticated visual style, Davies’ adaptation of Terence Rattigan’s stage play is essential viewing and a fine contemporary example of film as art.
