Undoubtedly one of the most disturbing films you will ever see, Snowtown is an incredibly powerful piece of film making from first time feature director Justin Kurzel. A start film about Australia’s most notorious serial killer, John Bunting, whose victims became crassly known as “bodies in barrels,” Snowtown creates a visceral and violent tone through its superbly crafted and claustrophobic cinematography as well as an unbelievably abrasive sound-scape. Certainly not a film for everyone, but indeed an impressive and unnervingly affective first effort, Kurzel achieves the creation of a dark and depraved cinematic world that is a painful remarkable and true assault on the senses.
