Gus Van Sant’s latest offering is a sweet, and occasionally saccharine, indie romance flick. Enoch is a troubled young man who instead of attending school attends funerals. He also talks to the ghost of a kamikaze pilot, Hiroshi. Annabel is characterised by her status as one of the “Cancer Kids” at a local hospital. The two meet and fall in love only to find that what’s beautiful in life is also fleeting. TJ
