THE ASTOR REVIEW

If there’s one thing you can count on Kevin Smith for it’s the certainty of dividing opinions and Red State is no exception. Flitting between focuses on misguided youths, religious extremism and atrocious government policy; Red State looks perhaps a little too briefly at everything that is wrong with long-ingrained middle American social and political value systems. Not quite a horror /thriller, almost an over-saturated satire, the film’s confused and conflicted focus might actually be its hidden genius as it offers a compelling and baffling view of an equally fascinating and confused subject matter. Whatever else it is, Red State is genuinely entertaining and it certainly stays with you. TJ
