18-year-old Alex wants to dance. She works all day as a welder, has a hot affair going with her boss Nick, dances at a local bar at night, and hopes someday to get enough courage to audition for a spot at the School of Ballet. Glossy, but shallow, fare redeemed somewhat by exciting choreography with Marine Jahan doing the dancing for Beals. Oscar-winning title song sung by Irene Cara. Inspired the torn-sweatshirt trend in fashion of the period.

IMDB SYNOPSIS

Alex Owens is a female dynamo: steel worker by day, exotic dancer by night. Her dream is to get into a real dance company, though, and with encouragement from her boss/boyfriend, she may get her chance. The city of Pittsburgh co-stars. What a feeling!
