SYNOPSIS

On the 40 year memorial anniversary of the murder of The Balibo Five, please join the filmmakers and families of the journalists at a special fundraising event and screening of Robert Connolly’s BALIBO at the Astor Theatre. In support of the Balibo House Trust and their approach to “remembering the past, working to the future", the screening will support the establishment of a dental clinic in the town of Balibo in East Timor. BALIBO tells the story of the journalists sent to East Timor to report on Indonesia’s invasion of East Timor in 1975. It was described by The Age in its five star review as “Compelling, provocative and unashamedly political…..an extraordinary film”. Directed by Robert Connolly (PAPER PLANES, THE BANK), BALIBO stars Oscar Isaac (Inside Lewellyn Jones, Star Wars) and Anthony Lapaglia (Lantana), both actors winning Australian Film Institute Awards for their performances. BALIBO had its world premiere as opening night of the Melbourne International Film Festival. The evening is a unique opportunity to support the establishment of a dental clinic in the village of Balibo, a community with extremely limited access to dental services. The new clinic will service around 15,000 people in Balibo and the surrounding villages. balibo.com / balibohouse.com.
