With possibly the most awesome premise for a horror comedy since Shaun of the Dead, Attack the Block is all about an alien invasion on a rough as they come South London council estate. Determined to defend what pittance post-colonialism and neo-liberalism has left them with, a group of bored, angry and displaced teenagers tool up to fight the invasion and “the feds” with equal quantities of desperation and pride. This debut feature film from writer/director Joe Cornish uses social realism with the most liberal pinch of salt to create what is without a doubt the funniest and most entertaining film of 2011. TJ
